Rapid diagnostic point-of-care tests use a sample of mucus from the nose or throat, but can be analyzed in the doctor‘s office or clinic where the sample is taken and the results may be available in a few minutes. These can be molecular or antigen tests. Home collection tests, available only on medical prescription, allow the patient to collect the sample at home and send it directly to the laboratory for analysis.
